The Nord 1002 was built by SNCAN (Societe Nationale
de Constructions Aeronautiques du Nord) which was normally known as
Nord. In 1942 Nord began construction of the Messerschmitt Bf 108 Taifun
for the Luftwaffe and by 1945 had built 170. At the end of the war, the
company continued production under the designation Nord 1000. The three
seat Nord 1001 Pingoiun replaced the earlier 240hp Argus with the
similarly powered Renault. Both the Pingoiun 1 and 11 served with the
French military in the communications role until retired when a number
were sold on to the civil market. A small number remain airworthy.
